When is a Dental Implant worth considering?
Implants are one of several ways to replace a missing tooth — the alternatives include a bridge, a partial denture, or sometimes doing nothing at all. An implant is often the preferred option when the neighbouring teeth are healthy and untouched (a bridge requires reshaping them), when you want a replacement that is cleaned and used like a natural tooth, or when a denture has become loose or uncomfortable. It is not automatically the best answer for everyone, and part of our job is to tell you when a simpler option would serve you better.

What does the process involve?
1. Assessment and planning. We examine your mouth, take a 3D CBCT scan to map the bone and nearby structures, and plan the implant position digitally before anything happens in the mouth. You receive a written treatment plan with each stage itemised.
2. Implant placement. The implant is placed in a minor surgical procedure under local anaesthetic. Most people are surprised how uneventful this appointment is, and normal activities can usually resume within a day or two.
3. Healing. Over roughly two to six months the bone integrates with the titanium surface. Depending on your case, a temporary tooth may be worn during this period.
4. The final restoration. Once integration is confirmed, we attach the final crown, bridge or denture — custom-made to match your bite and the surrounding teeth.
5. Maintenance. Implants are cleaned like natural teeth and need the same ongoing care: daily hygiene and regular professional reviews. Well-maintained implants commonly serve for many years, though like any dental treatment they are not guaranteed for life.

How long do dental implants last?
