You may be eligible without knowing it
Defence Health is not only for serving members. You can join if you are:
-
Serving in the Navy, Army or Air Force
-
A veteran or a Reservist
-
An employee of the Department of Defence or the Department of Veterans' Affairs
-
An employee of a contracted defence company
-
The partner, ex-partner, parent, child or sibling of a current or former serving member — including that sibling's children or partner
Eligibility continues after service ends. If you served years ago, or a sibling did, you may still qualify. Defence Health will confirm whether your employer counts — 1800 840 266.
What we do here
Aesthetica is a cosmetic and restorative practice. The work Defence Health members most often come to us for is the major end of a dental plan — dental implants, crowns and bridges, full-mouth rehabilitation, and the repair of long-standing wear.
Service tends to be hard on teeth. Years of ration packs and irregular meals, sustained clenching, dental trauma from training or sport, and long gaps between appointments while posted or deployed all show up eventually — usually as cracked molars, worn-down front teeth, or a tooth that was patched years ago and has finally failed.
That kind of case is worth planning properly rather than fixing one tooth at a time. We take photographs and a scan, look at the bite as a whole, and give you a written plan in stages with costs attached, so you can decide what to do now and what can wait.
Implants planned from a CT scan
We plan implants from a 3D cone beam CT scan, which shows bone volume and the position of the nerve before anything is placed.
Implants are not suitable for everyone. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, insufficient bone and untreated gum disease all affect whether an implant is appropriate and how likely it is to last. We will tell you if you are not a good candidate, and what the alternatives are.
Claiming
We claim through the terminal when you finish. Major dental usually carries waiting periods and its own annual limit, so for larger plans it is worth knowing where your limit sits before starting — you will have an itemised written quote with item numbers, and sequencing treatment across two benefit years is often sensible.

FAQ
Who can join Defence Health? You can join if you are serving in the Navy, Army or Air Force, are a veteran or Reservist, work for the Department of Defence or the Department of Veterans' Affairs, or work for a contracted defence company. Partners, ex-partners, parents, children and siblings of a current or former serving member are also eligible.
Can defence industry contractors join Defence Health? Yes. Employees of contracted defence companies are eligible, which covers a great many people working across the defence supply chain. Defence Health will confirm whether your employer qualifies on 1800 840 266.
Can I join Defence Health if I am no longer serving? Yes. Eligibility continues after service ends. Veterans and ex-serving family members remain eligible, so if you left the ADF years ago, or a sibling did, you may still qualify.
Does Defence Health cover dental implants? Implants generally fall under major dental, which usually carries its own waiting period and annual limit. What you get back depends on your level of cover and remaining limit, so we provide an itemised written quote with item numbers before treatment begins.
